The Buying Process Simplified: 9 Key Steps

Buying a new home is an exciting event! With the proper guidance, you will find yourself in a home that fits your needs and your budget. Here are 9 key steps in the process of purchasing a property:

    1. Find a Great Agent!

    2. Get Prequalified For A Mortgage
      Sit down with your banker or mortgage broker to discuss financing options. They will establish your financing comfort zone, enabling you to focus on properties that you can really afford. I can help you to arrange a pre-qualification or pre-approval appointment with a reputable lender, if needed.
    3. Establish Your Search Criteria
      Determine your wish list in terms of location and features (number of bedrooms, bathrooms, etc.) I will listen to your needs, your wants and your time frame. Together we will discuss and craft the best plan of action to accomplish your goals.
    4. Begin To Look At Homes
      Immediately upon hiring me I will begin to search the MLS system to find properties that match your specific needs. I’ll arrange to show you desirable properties at YOUR convenience. I have access to ALL available properties, including those listed with other companies. We will discuss the features of each property that may affect its current and future resale value.
    5. When That Great Day Arrives…
      Our hard work has paid off and you have found the home you want to buy, I will help you structure an offer that meets your needs in terms of price, closing date and other critical issues. Here’s a more detailed look at how I can help you score the home of your dreams once you’ve found it.
    6. Presenting Your Offer
      I will present the offer on your behalf and will negotiate an agreement with the seller that is acceptable to you.
    7. Once the Deal Is Made
      You will pick a lawyer to handle the closing of the purchase. Typically the closing date is 60 to 90 days after the deal is made. The closing date is one of the key terms that is negotiated for you. I will coordinate the closing process with the lawyer of your choice.
    8. Prior to Closing
      You will arrange for a moving company and you will also arrange for telephone, heating and electrical service for your new home.
    9. Getting the Keys To Your New Home!
      Your lawyer will handle the closing process for you, and on the closing date will arrange with the seller’s lawyer to get you the keys to your new home!
